Custom Serving Trays featuring Coast Lines

The Serving Coast is a limited collection of hand-crafted, locally-sourced hardwood serving trays shaped as US States or Countries, featuring the artistic use of food-safe resins to represent the major water features. Originally launched as a Kickstarter, you can now have one of these beautiful centerpieces, representing a place that's important to you at the center of your next social engagement - or even to just display in your home. Each tray is finished in a protective coating of mineral oil and beeswax to keep maintenance simple and food safe. I've chosen to limit the Serving Coast to a collection of 100, so each is numbered and signed by me.

Each tray is crafted using Black Walnut for the state or country and, if necessary, Hard Maple for surrounding areas to make the tray usable. The ocean/lakes/rivers are created using a food-safe epoxy resin colored to create the effect of waves in the water. The sizes listed are approximate - a lot depends on the aspect ratio of the design being used. For example, Florida made sense to do as a circular tray, while South Africa is a little more rectangular with the parts of Africa just north of it being included as Maple to avoid random bits sticking out. The finished trays also have a variable thickness, but are generally between 1/2 and 3/4" thick.

Each tray is created to order and no two will ever be alike. The whole creation process (designing the cutouts, laminating the wood, pouring the resin, planing the trays smooth, sanding, oiling and waxing) can take 1-2 weeks depending on the complexity of the state or country.
