Welcome to Dusty Duck Designs! We are Mark and Amy Ewing, a husband and wife duo with a shared love for woodworking and a burning desire to bring your custom, one-of-a-kind visions to life. Our journey began at the start of our marriage, as we delved into the world of woodworking under the tutelage of Amy's grandfather. Over the years, we've evolved from humble beginnings in our garage to purchasing and transforming a quaint church into a dedicated workshop.
Our Journey: From Garage to Shop
Our transformation from garage woodworking to renovating a small church reflects our unwavering commitment to this craft. The church we now call our workshop has seen us breathe new life into its pews, transforming the sacred oak into exquisite charcuterie boards, pens, bowls, boxes, and more. This commitment to sustainability and repurposing is at the heart of what we do.
The Beauty of Reclaimed and Exotic Woods
At Dusty Duck Designs we cherish the stories each piece of reclaimed wood carries. Our passion extends to working with both reclaimed and exotic woods, creating pieces that are both timeless and breathtaking. We believe that every piece of wood has a unique beauty waiting to be unlocked and enjoy finding just the right wood for each item we craft.
Custom Crafting with Technology
In our pursuit of innovation, we've embraced technology as well. Our CNC and laser machines empower us to craft designs and shapes tailored to individual pieces and unique expressions. We've used the CNC machine to craft intricate coastline serving trays, custom dice boxes, and more. The laser machine gives us the flexibility to etch art that elevate pieces to the next level such as custom domino and mahjong sets and even personalized poems on serving trays.
Resin: Where Art and Nature Meet
Our exploration goes beyond traditional woodworking and tools. We've fallen in love with resin, a versatile medium that allows us to blend art and nature seamlessly. Our resin river tables and resin/wood coasters are the embodiment of this creative fusion, capturing the spirit of flowing water and the warmth of wood in every piece.
The Serving Coast: Our Kickstarter Milestone
One of our proudest moments was our Kickstarter project, "The Serving Coast." We created resin/wood serving trays in the shape of coastal states, with resin highlighting the water features of each state. This project allowed us to share our love for craftsmanship on a broader scale, and the support we received from our backers was truly heartwarming.
Balancing Passion with Full-Time Jobs
Currently, we both have full-time jobs in the world of IT, but woodworking is our true passion. It's what we look forward to when the workday ends, and the scent of freshly cut wood and the hum of our machines beckon us to create. We're excited to embark on this journey of expansion, to devote more time to our craft, and to create pieces that resonate with your soul.
